Released Nov 2018 1.7★
rFactor 2 McLaren Edition is a realistic, VR racing simulation from Studio 397. It offers the chance to drive classic McLaren cars, customize your races and experience the height of racing realism. rFactor 2 features an immersive sound environment and stunning graphics, perfect for top-level driving and a rich single-player VR experience.
Racing against a field of AI cars, rFactor 2 McLaren Edition supports a full day-night cycle as well as dynamically varying weather conditions such as rain which dynamically builds into puddles. Tracks feature “real-road” technology that changes the grip as more cars drive on it. Working with several partners, rFactor 2 has been used in hundreds of esport championships all over the world – in particular McLaren’s World’s Fastest Gamer, McLaren Shadow and Formula E.
Friendly reminder: Please use your keyboard and mouse to set up and start the game.
And pressing the ESC key at any time will bring up the menu and allow you to leave a race.
(also playable on Oculus Rift)

This is one of those experiences that nails a few things I’ve always wanted, but it does everything else terribly.
The controls are sublime… I’ve been wanting a racing game where you use motion controls instead of a thumbstick, and it works amazingly well here. The driving physics are also great. But…
All menus require a mouse to use, no in-game controls for the menus, which is hilariously bad. When the race started, my position was about 4 feet to the right of my car with no way to reset it, so I had to physically walk over to the right spot and drive while standing.
There’s a good racing game and engine here, but the VR implementation is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. This should be 100% free, not just for subscribers. I’m upset I wasted a download slot on this.

This is a demo and not the full game that I was expecting.

I had to have a look, being a previous fan of rFactor on flat screen gaming.
I’m disappointed, its a very limited look at a game that’s been converted to VR. Graphics are poor compared to the likes of Project cars 2 and Assetto. Only worth a look if you are very new to sim racing. I would imagine good if you have not experienced VR Racing games before though.

As everyone else states here – it has some great qualitites but the interface is sadly such a mess I find it possible to enjoy. UI-wise all we want is an elaborate version of Mario Cart with gears – the rest is make-up. Needless to say all the make-up in the world cannot compensate for the problems underneath. With some updates this should be good to go as well as a nice game – why not add a simplified and an advanced mode for us to choose from at the beginning? I am no racing nerd so I don’t have a clue of how to make use of half of the settings in the already confusing menu.

This game is so bad, why on earth do you need to use your KEYBOARD and mouse when playing VR? and if you crash in the race you cant really reset without taking you VR headset off

Extremely poor expirience. Game doesn’t clearly outline how to play. I had to use my keyboard to start off, then awkwardly transition into using the HTC VIVE controllers. The game started me off in a weird veiwpoint. Not even in the drivers seat. I was at the front right tire. Bad expirience overall.

After installing this game with a lot of expectance, it has been a waste of time, trying to make my brand new G27 wheel to run. It was not possible in any aspect. The system will recognize all perfectly, also the menu configuration. But when you are in the track, Wheel, pedals will not work. Buttons yes. I tried to find information about this, and it seems i am the only one with this problem. It looks promising but the movement of the car suspension or computer AI just moves like robots. I don´t think these guys are ready to jump to VR yet. uninstalling now.

This is an odd one. The game itself feels very detailed, but the VR version is too difficult to even begin to figure out. You can only navigate the (extensive) menus using a mouse and keyboard, something nearly impossible with a VR headet on. After figuring out how to get into a race, I found myself floating above and in front of my car. Even sitting on the ground as close as I could get to the correct position, I was still essentially standing on the front wing. The driving controls are actually very clever (steer using motion controls like a wheel, the grip buttons shift grear, face buttons control pit lane speed limiter, etc), but leave no allowance for menu controls, so to pause etc requires flailing around for your keyboard. Worst of all this is the only time I’ve been made nauseous in VR, and it happened pretty much instantly. The Project Cars series I’ve never had trouble with.
