Torn-Aspyr Media Inc.

Released Sep 2018 3.9★
Deep within a forest no one has ever seen, in a field no one has ever stepped foot in, you come upon a house that should not exist. You push the door open, step inside, and begin to record. Scientific papers and instruments are everywhere, the research of Dr. Lawrence Talbot, reported missing more than 50 years ago…

For Katherine Patterson, a video blogger and explorer of the abandoned, Talbot’s mansion is the story of a lifetime, worth millions. But as you begin to unravel the mysteries Talbot has left behind, nothing can prepare you for the truth that lies ahead. Record everything you see, for in Talbot’s world, nothing is as it seems.

Torn is a VR mystery inspired by works such as The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. The story was written by video game writer Susan O’Connor (Tomb Raider, Bioshock) and its score composed by the Garry Schyman (Bioshock).
(also playable on Oculus Rift)

Great scenery, great voice acting, great music and a good story. Puzzles are not that hard, but that is ok, as the story is more important then the puzzles, in my opinion.
Many scenes can only be done and in VR, which really adds to the immersion. I highly recommend this experience (as it is more an experience than a game).

Fun story to follow along with. Puzzles were not too difficult, but still a challange.
You’ll get at least 3-4 hours of game play.
Totally worth it with the subscription.

had a lot of fun with this game really cool kept me interested there was a bug near the end right now I still can’t get the last key kind of resets the memories in each room when I go back to it but hopefully that works itself out because I made it almost all the way to the end I will try again to get that last piece

You should give this experience a good try. I played off and on over the past week. I have no idea how long it took. The puzzles are quite easy and got a bit samey when going through.

The world that Aspry built is really really nice. The voice narration its fantastic, I was a bit gutted at the end when it finished. A big shout out goes to the music that really gives the world the mystery and amazement.

Hope to get a 2nd one, maybe a bit more open spaced and different puzzles… other things i could put in here but would be to spoilery 🙂

Please try this with an open mind 😉 and enjoy everything it throws at you..or you throw…or something 🙂

What a work of art, graphics, music, story, it’s an amazing full game with good length and great production values, something you don’t see very often in VR, I love the theme of a house full of puzzles, the attention to detail is amazing and with Pimax at some points like the entrance hall, the baby room, the room with the statue and the flying leaves etc the ammount of immersion almost seems like witchcraft, it’s incredible, and this small, realistic rooms take a huge advantage of VR.

I really hope we get to see some sort of sequel at some point, right now this this is a must game for anyone with a sub and even the least interest in puzzles (I really don’t like puzzles much) since they aren’t that difficult and you get lots of clues in the process.

Top notch VR game. Can’t believe this is available with subscription. Amazing visuals the best I’ve seen, great musical score, interesting story. Most of the actual gameplay involves rooms chock full of objects that you throw all over the place with a gravity tool to complete circuits embedded in the walls. Very fun at first and I’m suprised they made it work so well, but it does seem like a bit of a chore towards the end of the game.
Overall the best game I’ve seen for the vive so far and a absolute must for any scifi fan.

Atmospheric puzzlegame, doing the puzzles in all dimensions is really cool and my only complaint is that the orientation of the character (tool on belt) sometimes gets twisted. I love the story so far and I showed it to mum who also enjoyed it a lot.

Give it a go.

Fantastic voice acting, engaging story and no-nonsense puzzles with intuitive controls.
Gravity gun has the best object interaction from all games I’ve played and the way sockets magnetically pull the object to be inserted into them so it faces the right way is awesome.

Ending came a bit abruptly but nontheless it was a great ride.

5 stars, despite locomotion that’s so slow you’ll just use teleport, despite forcing the player to watch credits at the start, despite an ending that felt like 10 minutes of boring exposition while I stood there.

The environment is superbly rendered. The game is mostly very engaging. This game is unforgettable. In a good way.

I haven’t finished it yet, but I like what I’ve seen. It offers a compelling VR environment with puzzles of mild-to-moderate difficulty. You might have to close your eyes or take off your headset during the opening credits to avoid some motion illness. I’m hoping that after I finish the game I’ll unlock the option of being able to wander around the mansion and grounds.

This is a beautiful game in terms of visuals. The story is a mixed bag – some aspects of the narrative are very very good, and other aspects are just not very engaging. I would say this feels like a mix of Myst, Shenmue, and Portal – but sadly the puzzles feel more like Shenmue than Myst – and the voice companion is not as fun as that of Portal (which is my favorite game ever so it is an unfair comparison perhaps). I like escape rooms, but as for game-play more care should be taken to craft riddles and tasks that make sense to perform. Here I wanted to run through the story and the spaces are nice but I really felt that I had to go endure very repetitive tasks over and over. The puzzles would have felt more worth it if it all fell into place by the end of the game – I did not feel this was the case for me and almost quit mid-game because of this. The developers are onto something though!

I liked the game and I also loved the ending.

Torn has two very good voice actors and their conversations kept me playing and made me eager to see, what mystery lies hidden in that game.

The game mechanic by itself was quite interesting for a VR game.
You have to solve puzzles (unfortunatelly not very hard) to get on and you learn after every task something new about the secret which lies hidden in this mansion.

Torn is not the best VR game but a very good and decent one which can be played from the beginning to the end.

A very good game, with an intreguing story playing a bit on the mind. The puzzlez are repetative, but the game keeps adding small new elements and dialogue, keeping the puzzlez interesting. The game could have visualized more of its dialogue and made the interaction a bit smoother, but overall a very good game!

Very nice graphics and overall look and feel. Really cool machines!

Although the gameplay gets a bit boring after you realize it’s the same puzzle in 10 rooms…

It takes about 4 hours to finish and after the ending I feel no satisfaction at all, I was expecting something else…

Played on Samsung Odysey
Graphix are good and every chair, painting, book, table, bed and chest is a 3d object that you can interact with in the house whitch is an achivement in itself but there is no artificial turning, you can slightly walk through walls and eveything turs dark to ‘stop’ (not the best solution) and the game starts off real slow (no puzzels in the first 30-60minutes).
But if you want a clutter simulator, this is THE BEST I FOUND! 😀

Good graphics, interesting story and gameplay. It is not like this game is free of bugs. It told me to turn it and I did, but the object seemd to be stuck in the graphics. But I’d still recommend it anyway. Definetly one of the good titles here.

The game is quite elaborate with intriguing graphics. At times, chores are a little repetitive, but that’s ok due to the varying environments. I did not like the resolution, which IMO does not match the atmosphere of the game, but that is a matter of personal opinion.

OK as a subscription game. Questionable as a purchase, because it’s short and flawed.

With one exception, puzzles are all “put this shape in the matching socket,” which doesn’t really qualify as a puzzle. Mostly what redeems it is that it’s short and rummaging around for the object with the right symbol is mildly enjoyable.

It’s pretty, particularly near the end of the game, where the spaces are quite impressive.

Narrative is OK until the end, where it takes a sudden left turn, and pretty much abandons all the story elements to that point. It’s rationalized, but it’s a huge narrative cheat.

I adored this game, the look, the feel, the mechanics, the physics, and how beautifully it runs. The voice acting is incredible and the character of the particle is charismatic and interesting.

You might be wondering why my score is so low, given all that.

The ending destroys it. It’s such a stupid twist that not only makes no sense and isn’t foreshadowed, it ruins the characters and leaves more questions than answers. I feel like the developers didn’t know how to end the game and so decided to just google cliche endings and go with one of those.

Oh, and there’s no reward for finding all the hidden memories. If anything you’re punished for being thorough.

Play this game, 100% play this game, but do yourself a favor and don’t finish it. Whatever you imagine in your head to be the ending is way better than what you’ll get.

Beautiful graphics, story was good and mysterious. The only thing is the puzzles got a bit repetitive after a while. A bit of a missed opportunity to what would have otherwise been awesome

The game looks and sounds nice enough, but the ‘puzzles’ aren’t interesting and the plot completely falls apart at the end. There’s not really a way to discuss the issues without spoilers, so I’ll just say that the twist ending alone killed any enthusiasm I had- if you played Stories Untold before, it’s the same twist with no clues or hints as to what’s really going on and with an extra dash of the ‘bury the gays’ trope for good measure. It’s not bad on the whole, but I’m definitely not going to be replaying it.

Started promsingly enough. But went a little downhill from there. Initial opening walk around seems to be low res graphics.. as all seems a little blury/blocky in the distance. Close to ok.

Then moments in and you have to watch the credits. Which you can’t skip, and is a little tedious.

Then, a few seconds in, and it crashes with a fatal error.

Not a good start, and one that makes me think I might not bother trying again.

Visuals and game mechanics were good but the story writen by an “award winning” writer ruins the experience tyring to make a didactive and “clever” ending for which there are no clues. The character development is also not there – with the morally questionable and dull character that you are stuck with getting very annoying.

Maybe I should give this a 2, but I have strong feels about it, having just wasted the better part of a day fighting my way through all of its sheer bugginess. The game, whilst very appealing visually, is a real mess in most other respects. The voice acting of both principals is annoying as hell and neither character is at all likeable. The puzzles are incredibly simplistic and yet the devs still make the game drop pointless hints and prodding every thirty seconds. And the glitches! Good grief, this game is buggy. It locked up my computer solidly several times during play and every time you try to move from one room to the next you have to suffer a stuttering two-minute door unlock animation. The plot and dialogue are also uninspiring and you feel railroaded as the main character, as you’re given zero agency. I’m very glad I didn’t have to pay to play this. You’ve been warned. 😉

Great graphic, sound and atmosphere.
However the game has a gamebreaking bug and after finishing al puzzles/circuits the barometers don’t activate or give me keys. I completed all rooms and got only 2 keys. I even try to repair the game but nothing.
Sadly i must suggest to don’t buy it or to waste a subscription slot for this game.

Good graphics, terrible gameplay. If I have to define this game with 2 words that would be annoying and frustrating. Even worse, UNNECESARILY annoying and frustrating. Things you put into sockets randomly pop out if you go to the next room. Theres no sense of challenge or difficuty. Just wander around looking for matching stuff.
Also, for the love of God, allow players to turn around with the controllers. If theres a game where you have to turn around and around, it’s this one. I found baffling not being able to turn around with a button. That thing only is annoying enough to fed you up after ten minutes in the game. I’ll consider re-installing it if they add that feature.
Also, a quick search on the writer’s social media will explain the ending.
